Hazardous Waste Site Worker Course Description
Prerequisite: None
If your responsibilities require you to work within a hazardous waste site. OSHA requires you to be familiar with the methods and procedures to protect yourself and others from the safety and health risks of hazardous materials. This course provides an opportunity for hands on skills development. This course meets OSHA 1910.120 and EPA 40 CFR for hazardous waste site workers. Recommended for personnel involved in the remediation of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites including EPA Superfund sites, RCRA corrective action sites or voluntary cleanup sites.
Skills: Identify and practice methods and procedures for recognizing, evaluating and controlling hazardous substances. Identify concepts, principles and guidelines to properly protect personnel and the surrounding environment. Select and use the appropriate protective equipment - including respirators and protective suits. Students will create a Health and Safety Plan (HASP). Topics covered include environmental laws and regulations, hazard awareness, recognition and identification, site safety and control, work plans, medical monitoring, personal protective equipment selection, care and use. Air monitoring and sampling equipment, confinement, control, cleanup, decontamination procedures, incident command and emergency response planning are also covered in this course.
