Board Policy 5089

Personal/Emergency Leave Policy for Regular Part-Time Employees

  1. This policy applies only to regular part-time employees. The length of an employee’s “day” will be the number of hours regularly scheduled during a typical work day.

  2. Four (4) days of personal business leave will be provided annually to Regular Part-time employees. Personal business leave may be used for, but not limited to, attending to personal business, legal business, and/or family matters which cannot be taken care of during non-duty hours. Personal business leave must be requested, in writing, twenty-four (24) hours in advance in order to allow time to secure a substitute driver if necessary. Personal business leave shall not be cumulative from one year to the next.

  3. As an incentive to encourage attendance, each employee under this Policy will receive an attendance incentive in an amount based on $35.00 per day for each unused personal day remaining at the end of a school year.

  4. Employees hired during the school year will be credited with personal business days on a pro rata basis.

  5. An employee may opt to take the number of personal/emergency leave days he/she is credited at the beginning of the fiscal year, JULY 1. However, if Employee’s employment ceases for any reason prior to the end of that fiscal year, the value of each day of personal/emergency leave taken, but not earned, shall be deducted from the Employee’s remaining pay, or if the Employee’s remaining pay is not sufficient, the Employee must pay that amount to the District.

  6. Leave must be approved by the employee’s supervisor. Approval will be based on staffing requirements, employee length of service, and extenuating circumstances.
