Board Policy 5082
Sick Leave
Each Regular Full-Time employee, Part-time with Benefits employee, and Regular PartTime employee shall receive sick leave benefits. The length of an employee’s “day” will be the number of hours regularly scheduled during a typical work day.
Each 10-month employee is credited with ten (10) days of Sick Leave annually, and each twelve-month employee is credited with twelve (12) days of Sick Leave annually. Employees hired during the school year will be credited with Sick Leave on a prorated basis.
Unused Sick Leave will accumulate from year to year. Appropriate credit will be given for validated accrued sick leave of up to sixty (60) days when employees transfer employment to the district from another district within the State of Oklahoma. Such transferred sick leave shall be used first in case of illness.
Upon the retirement , as a one-time benefit, bus drivers shall be paid $35.00 per day, support employees shall be paid $70.00 per day, and certified employees and non-certified professional full-time employees shall be paid $100 per day for full unused sick days from one (1) to sixty (60) days and at his/her daily rate for those days in excess of sixty (60) days with a maximum of twenty days. Certified teachers are subject to provisions in the sick leave policy covered under the ACT agreement with the Board of Education.
If an employee uses a number of sick leave days he/she is credited at the beginning of the fiscal year, JULY 1, and the Employee’s employment ceases for any reason prior to the end of that fiscal year, the value of each day of sick leave taken, but not earned, shall be deducted from the Employee’s remaining pay, or if the Employee’s remaining pay is not sufficient, the Employee must pay that amount to the District.
An employee may use his/her accrued Sick Leave days because of personal illness or illness in his/her family which includes husband, wife, son, daughter, mother, father, or corresponding in-laws, a relative that resides permanently in the employee’s home, or a domestic partner. For the purpose of this policy a domestic partnership is an interpersonal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life but are not married to each other or to anyone else. Sick leave may also be used for bereavement for the relatives listed.
To effectively serve the needs of the employees of the district it is necessary that controls be exercised to avoid the misuse of Sick Leave. Any employee may be required to submit appropriate evidence concerning the cause of his/her absence to qualify for sick leave benefits. Appropriate evidence may include the following:
A physician’s statement endorsed by the employee.
