Board Policy 5066

Association of Career & Technical Education Staff Selection Policy

In compliance with Oklahoma statutes covering staff development, each teacher of the District shall be required to attend the staff development activities applicable to his/her area of professional expertise and which have been developed by the area staff development committee and adopted by the Board of Education. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action by the Board of Education, as outlined in the Evaluation Policy of the ACT Agreement.

Additionally, all professional educators are urged to participate and attend the appropriate professional association when these meetings accord with administration and Board Policy.

The Board of Education feels that attending the Association of Career and Technical Education Annual Convention enhances the professional growth of ACTE positional members. The Board encourages participation in ACTE and will approve ten members from those employees included in the Institutional Membership for OKACTE to be eligible for participation in professional development to include meetings, ACTE conference, alternate conferences or educational course(s). Each member must complete their training by June 30 of the year they are selected. If a member declines the opportunity they will be moved to the bottom of the rotation.

Membership:
Northeast Tech has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education to purchase Positional Memberships.

Entering into this agreement provides for NT the ability to encourage approved employees to participate in professional activities beneficial to NT and our students by paying for association dues and conference registration required for participation in Summer Conference. NT will, to the extent funds are available, pay for registration and membership for the primary division associated with the position. Any additional costs will be the responsibility of the employee. Positional memberships remain with NT and do not belong to the employee.

Notification/Exchange:
Staff members will be notified if they are next on the rotation list. The eligible staff member will be given the opportunity to attend either the ACTE national conference, an alternate professional development opportunity, or educational course(s) approved by the campus director and the superintendent and/or his/her designee.

Alternative Opportunity
The cost of any approved professional development shall not exceed the expected cost of the ACTE conference.

Coursework:
If coursework is selected then the following items will be required for reimbursement purposes:

  1. College credit received by an accredited school.

  2. Courses must be verifiably completed before the June 30 deadline.

  3. Transcript provided to the Superintendent verifying completion.

  4. Courses must be relevant to the Mission at Northeast Tech

  5. $2500 maximum tuition reimbursement

Air Fare:
The member will make airline reservations if the member is traveling alone or if a spouse/significant other joins the member and receives reimbursement for the member only airfare equal to what has been quoted in notification. District administration may assist with the airline reservations if an undue hardship on the employee exists. If the participant agrees to attend ACTE and the school makes airline reservations and the participant decides not to attend, the participant agrees to refund the school for all expenses incurred due to the canceled reservation.

ACTE Staff Pair Participants:
If a staff member’s expenses are paid by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology or National Association, their participation will not affect the rotation list.

Rotation List:
The rotation list will remain in the Superintendent’s office and will consist of all ACTE positional memberships. A new OKACTE positional membership will be added to the end of the list based on the new members hire date.

Instructional Staff:
The instructional staff includes certified and non-certified instructors.
