Board Policy 5065
Professional Development
The Board of Education feels that attending professional development opportunities enhances the professional growth of staff members. The Board will approve ten members annually from those employees not otherwise included in the Institutional Membership for OKACTE to be eligible for participation in professional development to include meetings, conferences or educational course(s). Each member must complete their training by June 30 of the year they are selected. If a member declines the opportunity they will be moved to the bottom of the rotation.
Budget:
Staff members will be notified if they are next on the rotation list. The eligible staff member will be given the opportunity to attend either professional development opportunities or an educational course(s) approved by the campus director and the superintendent and/or his/her designee.
Alternative Opportunity
A budget for the professional development opportunity will be determined by the cost of the ACTE conference attended by the Positional Membership staff. Coursework will have a budget of $2500 for tuition reimbursement.
Late Withdrawals:
If a member decides he/she cannot attend after May 31st, he/she will lose their slot in the rotation and go to the bottom of the list.
Coursework:
If coursework is selected then the following items will be required for reimbursement purposes:
College credit received by an accredited school/college
Transcript provided to the Superintendent verifying completion
Courses must be verifiably completed before the June 30 deadline
Courses must be relevant to the Mission at Northeast Tech
$2500 maximum tuition reimbursement
Air Fare:
The member will make airline reservations if the member is traveling alone or if a spouse/significant other joins the member and receives reimbursement for the member only airfare equal to what has been quoted in notification. District administration may assist with the airline reservations if an undue hardship on the employee exists. If the participant agrees to attend a professional development opportunity and the school makes airline reservations and the participant decides not to attend, the participant agrees to refund the school for all expenses incurred due to the canceled reservation.
Rotation List:
The rotation list will remain in the Superintendent’s office and will consist of all full-time employees excluding those that are OKACTE positional memberships. A new employee will be added to the end of the list based on the new members hire date.
