Support Educator of the Year

Purpose:

To recognize career and technology educators, other than full-time classroom teachers, who have recently provided or currently are providing significant contributions to professional associations and career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in their respective fields and communities. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs; and/or improvement, promotion, research or development of programs of career and technical education.

Eligibility:

Individuals who are currently employed Northeast Technology Center as career and technology educators involved in CareerTech other than full-time classroom teachers are eligible recipients for this award. The nomination based on contributions and achievements must be within the past ten years.

Nomination Procedure:

  1. Any employee may nominate an individual by completing a nomination form and submitting it to the campus director, the administrative assistant to the BIS Director or the executive assistant to the Superintendent.

  2. All employees at their campus or site will vote on their campus or site nominees by secret ballot.

  3. If no nominee receives fifty-one percent (51%) of the votes cast, there will be a run-off election of the two (2) nominees with the greatest number of votes.

  4. The winning nominee shall become the Support Educator Employee of the Year for their campus or site and receive a stipend for $400.00. In addition, the candidate will run for the District competition for the Support Educator of the Year.

  5. Any nominee that doesn’t complete the application and interview process will forfeit the $400.00 stipend.

Application Procedure:

  1. Candidates must first compete in their campus competitions prior to being considered for this award.

All materials must be submitted electronically as a complete package to the administrative assistant to the Superintendent.

Selection Process:

A selection committee composed of community leaders will evaluate the application packets and interview each candidate. The committee will select a winner.

Awards:

The winning candidate shall be designated as The Support Educator of the Year. In addition, the winning candidate will have the choice of attending the ACTE Conference, a Program specific workshop or college coursework within the year, receive a $1,000.00 stipend and recognized at the District In-Service in May.

Alternative Opportunity-Program Specific Workshop The cost of any approved alternative opportunity shall not exceed the expected cost of the ACTE conference.

College Coursework The cost of any approved college coursework shall not exceed the expected cost of the ACTE conference. The following items will be required for reimbursement purposes:

  1. College credit received by an accredited school/college

  2. Transcript provided to the Superintendent verifying completion

  3. Courses must be taken before the June 30 deadline

  4. Courses must be applied towards your job field of study

TechConnect
The Support Educator of the Year winner will have the opportunity to attend TechConnect, if desired.
