Board Policy 3037
Criteria for Selection of and Participation in Contests at all Levels
All contests must meet the mission of Northeast Technology Center (NTC) and be sponsored by an Oklahoma Department of CareerTech Education (ODCTE) approved student organization. Contests selected should be the ones that are the most beneficial to the students enrolled. (e.g.; directly apply to the training needed in the program in preparation for job placement and/or further education).
Other Criteria:
Students must compete against at least one other student (or against an ODCTE student organization standard or criteria) at the local, district or regional level before being approved to attend a state contest.
In order for an NTC student to participate in a national contest, he/she must:
Have competed and ranked or placed 1st as an individual or competed as a member of the 1st place team at the state contest.
Be competing against others in a national contest.
Contests must be sponsored by an ODCTE recognized student organization at the district, region, state or national level.
For Criteria-based contests (individuals or teams competing against set standards), the top NTC qualifying student and or teams from each program at the state contest will be considered as having met the 1st place ranking.
For 1st place chapter projects, one individual will be selected to present the project at the national level.
An employee of NTC must be in attendance at all school sponsored contests. The employee will not be permitted to perform duties at district, regional, state or national contests that would prevent them from properly supervising their students.
In order for an NTC student to participate in contests, the following guidelines must be met.
The student must be enrolled as a full-time student, secondary or adult; and be a member in good standing of the ODCTE sponsored student organization for the program in which they are enrolled.
An adult student must not have competed in a skill event or have been gainfully employed in that trade area. (NTC sponsored internships and OJT are a part of the curriculum and do not disqualify a student.)
An adult attending as a 13th year student who competed as a high school student is not disqualified.
Maintain a grade average of āCā or better at NTC, and not be on attendance or disciplinary probation during the time of the contest event.
Must receive approval from the campus director to represent the school at contests and complete all required documents required by NTC.
If the above criteria are met, NTC will provide transportation and provide travel expenses according to NTC policy.
Non-ODCTE student organization sponsored contests or events must be recommended by the Campus Director and approved by the Superintendent.
