Board Policy 3035

Student Absences for Activities

Educational programs at the Northeast Technology Center are built on the foundation of continuity of instruction and participation in the classroom and lab/shop areas. Consistent attendance will assist students toward the development of strong work habits, responsibility, and self-discipline. As the participation in Career and Technology Student Organizations is regarded as an integral part of their programs, and the need for field trips to provide enhancement of their training in their chosen fields, the following policy is designed to facilitate a balanced education for each student.

The maximum of absences for activities shall be ten (10) days for any one class for each school year.

Excluded from this number shall be:

  1. Participation in state and national contests and State approved district meetings.

  2. Attendance at local civic organizations that the Campus Director feels to be beneficial to the student, the school, and the organization.

  3. Participation in field trips and assemblies approved by the Campus Director.

All activities that extend beyond the normal time that the student is in attendance at the Technology Center will be coordinated with the home high school and will not violate the student attendance policy of that school.

The Internal Activities Review Committee responsible for reviewing and recommending any deviation of the activities policy to the Board of Education will be composed of two teachers from each campus, the Assistant Superintendent (Campus Director) of each campus, and the Superintendent.

Each school shall be responsible for maintaining an addendum to the attendance records to verify the conditions within that campus that apply to this policy.
