Responsibilities of the Board
As a legal entity prescribed by Oklahoma Statutes, the Board in accordance with Oklahoma School Law, Section sixty-five (65) shall have the power to enact all regulations necessary to maintain and operate a complete school system of such character the Board shall deem best suited to the needs of the District.
Within the legal definition of its duties, the Board of Education of Northeast Technology Center considers its major responsibilities to be:
To secure the services of a Superintendent who shall be the executive officer of the Board. As executive officer the Superintendent shall have the responsibility to conduct the affairs of the District in accordance with the laws of the state and the policies of the Board.
To receive recommendations from the Superintendent, to set the employment duties and compensation of all employees of the District, and after proper consideration to accept or reject the recommendations by expressed approval of a majority of the membership of the Board.
To formulate the policies as deemed necessary for the proper operation of the School District.
To prepare and administer the annual school budget.
To determine the needs of the District and upon certification of these needs, levy an amount within the authorization voted by the electors of the District.
To appraise through reports from the Superintendent, or his/her designee, the general effectiveness of the school in achieving its stated mission.
To administer the financial affairs of the District including but not limited to:
Receiving collections from appropriate county and state treasurers those funds legally certified to be the property of the District.
Conducting School District bonded indebtedness elections up to five percent (5%) of the net valuation of real property within the District for the purpose of capital improvements including purchase of school sites, constructing, purchasing, improving, and equipping real property when such an election is approved by a majority of the electors voting in the school election when such an election is called for this purpose.To conduct proceedings of annexing or deleting territory from the School District in conjunction with those guidelines prescribed by law.
To operate a student transportation system for the needs of the students of the District.
To charge necessary fees, tuition charges and collect same in a manner consistent with the approval of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education Board including non-resident tuition fees for eligible students in attendance.
To operate a complete school system in full compliance with the current laws of Oklahoma and express guidelines prescribed by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education Board.
