Practical Nursing - Frequently Asked Questions
The NT PN Career Major is for adult students only. Applicants must be 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or a GED.
The NT PN Program is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and accredited by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education (ODCTE).
While in the career major, you are a student practical nurse (SPN). You will receive a certificate of completion upon completion of the program. You are then eligible for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). When you pass the NCLEX exam you will be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
NT PN Career Major uses a self-managed application process in which it is the applicant’s responsibility to submit all required documents to NT in one complete packet.
Please ensure that documentation is returned to the campus of your choice.
Applicants can choose on their applications to be considered at more than one NT campus with the understanding that they are expected to remain at the campus where they begin the PN Career Major.
Individualized Option Program
NT PN Individualized Option Career Major admits students every 3-4 months, at the beginning of the month, if openings are available. Complete applications are accepted at any time. The student is required to be in the classroom or clinical a minimum of 24 hours per week. Additional hours are required at home to complete assigned work. Nursing theory is provided through courses and students attend clinical rotations at a variety of clinical sites, including on-site simulated patient care experiences (SPCE). Simulation can be up to 50% of your clinical experience at NT. The student meets with their faculty advisor each month to review monthly contract which includes required seat hours, required exams and required clinical days for the month. The program must be completed within 15 months.
