Northeast Tech Pre-Engineering students from the Afton Campus recently partnered with Hopkins Manufacturing in Miami, Oklahoma to solve a real-world problem.

the one we start each semester with engineering design development we take the kids around and let them see some of the problems at the Hopkins that already pre identified for us and the kids got to choose and then I tried to pair kids top five ability level intros to the strong writer who strong and CAD that way we have some pretty even teams and it was just kind of luck of the draw that this team shows work on the couch it is amazing what they have done they have taken two different styles and caps made it into one universal cap for almost all of our blow molded part that we would potentially be able to make it house we would want to build a mold and and then start producing if that's what the corporate office decides but if we go with this design McGinnis Universal it will be a cost savings because it doesn't require a gasket or paper seal like the current cap Styles have and have the potential to save the company over $120,000 that's about a 6 months or why are six months return on investment for this project we got him a little bit but wouldn't you don't have to get him a lot I mean May kids are pretty sharp kids and stay pretty good on top of it but yeah we do guide him it's good to see the end product when they get to see it work and put applied to our technology and everything and then for them to smiling I actually made it easier on a workers are us you know it does help some of our problems may be in facility maintenance and Fabrication slot less I have to do sometimes but having these kids been here to help us pre-engineering students were were very good to work with they were it on time they were attentive they would listen to you that it wasn't hard at all they all got along real good it was fun to watch him and it's just a great experience all of the students have in one way or another improve safety whether it is I'm a nerd Ommegang weather it is a reduction of slip trip and fall Hazard or whether it's an efficiency game where human physical motion is reduced they fall main Improvement in every one of these workers lies we've not done anything but may games with this partnership with Northeast Tech students it's just a wonderful opportunity it's an opportunity that it would be great to the other manufacturers take now don't get me wrong I will gladly take all the students but I'd hate to see other local manufacturers miss out on this this opportunity and we are willing to share Northeast Tech instructors the students they're all pushing Oklahoma forward and Oklahoma kids use the forward push but it's really great to see all the successes that Northeast tag is pushing out and Hopkins is really proud to be a part of that
