Cosmetology
Career Overview:
These majors require Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology registration upon enrollment at NTC. The professional field of cosmetology prepares students to become licensed cosmetologist who provide nail, skin, scalp and hair care composition to customers to help them enhance their personal appearance. Students receive classroom instruction and hands-on training in hair styling, cutting, coloring and chemical restructuring. Included are manicures/pedicures, facials, lash/brow tinting and arching, and scalp treatments along with customer service and shop management. To obtain Cosmetology Public state licensing, students must complete 1000 hours of instruction, a approved 500 hours from a High School transcript and pass the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology written as well as practical exam. The Cosmetology Adult 1500 is the same with the exception of no high school transcript credit and a full 1500 hour of instruction. There are two instructors courses and they both require passing of the Cosmetology written and practical exam. Instructors with 5 years of current salon experience are only required to take 500 hours whereas the cosmetologist with less than five years of current salon experience are required to fulfill a 1000 hours of instruction. The Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology requires a student to be at least 16 years old before they can enroll in a cosmetology class.Required information:
